The vertical bars shows the estimated mean within each group with 95% confidence limits as estimated by a random intercept model (with a variance component defined by the centre) adjusting for age at scan (reference, mean age = 53 years). Individual points are partial residuals (i.e., best linear unbiased predictor of the residuals plus the estimated intercept within each group).
